Curtis, Jr.
The
Honorable Alfred
B. Curtis, Jr.,
is a past president
and CEO of the United
Nations Development
Corporation.
As
President and Chief
Executive Officer
of the United Nations
Development Corporation,
established by the
New York State legislature
as a $280 million
public benefit corporation,
he led the
effort to develop
and operate facilities
for the United Nations
community in New
York City starting
in 1996. Most recently,
he was successful
in the sale of the
four-star United
Nations Plaza Hotel,
transacting one
of the City's most
significant privatization
projects in recent
years.
Professionally
active in the public
as well as the private
sectors, the Honorable
Alfred B. Curtis,
Jr. was appointed
in 1994 as Commissioner
and Agency head
for the New York
City Department
of Youth Services
by Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani. Additionally,
he assumed responsibility
as executive director
of the City's Inter-Agency
Coordinating Council
on Youth, serving
in this capacity
until 1996. A Chemical
Bank executive for
five years before
entering public
service, Alfred
B. Curtis, Jr. attained
the position of
Assistant Vice President,
serving dually as
Operations Manager.
Concurrent
with his appointment
to the SIUH Systems
Board, the Hon.
Curtis, served on
the Board of Trustees
of the City University
of New York, heading
the Faculty, Staff
and Administration
Committee while
also maintaining
responsibilities
on the Board of
the Richmond County
Savings Foundation.
He
is a former Board
Chairman and President
of Staten Island
Community Television,
was a Commissioner
of the Redevelopment
of the Staten Island
Naval Station, and
is a past president
of the Staten Island
Chapter of the NAACP.
The recipient of
significant honors,
Alfred B. Curtis,
Jr. earned the New
York Governor's
Award for "African
Americans of Distinction"
in 1994, as well
as the Emma Lazarus
Award from the Associated
Builders and Owners
of Greater New York
in 1997. Last year,
he was honored as
"Man of the
Millennium"
by Staten Island
Friends of Hospice
Care.
Curtis
and his wife, Aurelia,
an assistant principal
at Curtis High School,
and their children,
Alfred III, Tiffany
and Gillian, live
in the New Springville
section of Staten
Island.
