Election Guidelines:
Liberia Community Association
Washington, D.C. Metro Area

The following guidelines and procedures have been devised to ensure full participation and a smooth election process for the officers of the Liberia Community Association.

All members of the LCA are encouraged to participate. If you are interested in serving the community in any of these official capacities, please submit all necessary requirements in accordance with the following guidelines and timetable:

ARTICLE I: The Elections Commission

The Elections Commission is an Ad hoc committee, appointed by the Interim President, Mr. Mainlehwon Ebenezer Vonhm and approved by the Interim Board of Directors of the LCA. It shall be dissolved 30 days following the declaration of the election results.

Section 1: Approved Elections Guidelines Presentation
Presentation of the approved election guidelines and procedures to the General Assembly on:

ARTICLE II: Offices/Positions for Election

The offices to which candidates shall be elected include the following:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • General Secretary
  • Financial Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Chaplain
  • Two representative seats for “Union of Liberian Associations in America” Board of Directors

 

ARTICLE III: Qualifications

Section 1: Elected Officers

  • Must be at least18 years of age and a resident of the Washington DC metropolitan area for a period of at least 2 years.

Section 2: Requirements

  • All interested candidates must submit a letter of intent to the Elections Commission, declaring their candidacy for the position to which they are contesting;
  • Letters of intent must be submitted along with the appropriate application fee no later than the close of business, March 5, 2017; and must be sent to:

  • All payments must be made to the LCA Elections Commission. Candidates can also make direct payment to the Elections Commission account using the following information:  Account #1357218809, Routing # 065000090 at any Capital One Bank, and text a copy of the bank deposit slip to The Elections Committee Treasurer Mrs. Jatoe Bestman Sapee at (314) 494-8218.

    In addition to the above requirements, certified Presidential Candidates MUST submit an endorsement list of at least 100 community members (who have paid their partial annual dues of $20; because ONLY dues paying members can vote. The regular annual dues are $35.00) of the LCA to include contact information (phone number, home address and/or email), no later than Sunday March 19, 2017, and must be sent to:

    Section 3: Application Fees (All fees are nonrefundable)

    • President ………......................................................  $200

    • All other Electable Positions or Candidates …..................... $100 each

    Please note that all candidates must also pay their partial annual dues of $20.00.

    Section 4: Voters Eligibility

    • Must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the Washington DC Metropolitan Area, and must show a valid ID to prove residency
    • All eligible voters must pay their partial annual dues of $20. All fees are nonrefundable.

    ARTICLE IV: Publishing Qualified Candidates’ List

    Names of all qualified candidates for the various positions will be presented at a General Assembly Meeting and published on TLC and Face Book. No candidate will be accepted after publication of the list of qualified candidates.

    ARTICLE V: Presidential Debate and/or Candidates’ Interaction with Voters

    ARTICLE VI: General Elections Date, Time, and Location

    Date: Saturday, April 1, 2017 / Time: 10:00am—5:00pm

    ARTICLE VII: Voting Procedure

    Section 1: Voting shall be by secret ballot.

    Section 2: Each eligible voter shall receive a Voters Registration Card ONLY on Elections Day.

    Section 5: The Voting Poll shall be opened at 10am and shall close at 4pm (EST)

    ARTICLE VIII: Elections Results / Announcement

    Date: Saturday, April 1, 2017 / Time: 6:00pm

    ARTICLE IX: Grievances

    All grievances on the conduct of elections and elections results must be submitted to the Elections Commission no later than 48 hours after the results are announced.
    The Elections Commission looks forward to serving you in a collaborative fashion to revitalize our community through a highly participatory, free, and fair electoral process for our community.
