“The Friends and Supporters of Liberian Basketball (FSLB), Inc. www.folbf.org announced the conclusion of the first step in a successful collaborative effort between its organization and a group of former NBA players (SportsPower, International), the Liberian Basketball Federation (LBF) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. FSLB worked with SportsPower, the LBF and Ministry of Youth and Sports to help facilitate a trip of the players to Liberia .

The SportsPower team in Liberia with Vice President Joseph Boikai. Members of Friends and Supporters of Liberian Basketball (Dawn Richards Tolbert, Yvette Lomax Lawson, Leeroi Boker, Anthony Fannoh, Mr. and Mrs. Boniface Satu) with reps from SportsPower (including Bill Alexson, former Chaplain for the Boston Celtics) at Greater Grace World Outreach Church.

The initial contact with SportsPower was made through Ambassador Nat Barnes who met Bill Alexson, the head of SportsPower, a little over a year ago. Amb Barnes contacted Marbue Richards, Deputy Min for Sports and he in turn suggested that the Ambassador put Bill Alexson in touch with a group of former players and supporters in the United States called Friends and Supporters of Liberian Basketball, Inc. (FSLB), to see what the organization could do to help. FSLB is a volunteer organization comprised of former Liberian basketball players and supporters throughout the US who are working together to give back to the sport of basketball in Liberia . Upon being contacted by the Ambassador, FSLB immediately took the initiative to begin working with SportsPower to do what they could to facilitate their trip to Liberia . Through meetings and contacts with the LBF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, FSLB was instrumental in helping to make the arrangements for SportsPower to travel to Liberia to conduct clinics, play games and inspire the youth. This week ends a very exciting, successful, week-long tour of the group in Monrovia .
