Grand Bassa County Scholarship foundation 2nd Annual benefit dinner
On Saturday September 22, 2012 Senator Gbehzohngar M. Findley, President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate traveled to the United States with his lovely wife to fundraise for the Grand Bassa Community College (GBCC) . That evening, he also served as the guest speaker at the second annual Grand Bassa County Scholarship Foundation’s Benefit Dinner. During his keynote speech, Senator Findley appealed to all Liberians and friends of Liberia to work together to ensure the success of this college. He also emphasized the need for continual streams of funding to facilitate the sustainable development of the school, its staff, and its programs. In an effort to lead by example, Senator Findley pledged to sponsor five GBCC teachers to obtain advanced degrees, in the name of his late father Senator Joseph Henry Patrick Findley. In addition to Senator Findley’s pledge, Mr. Emmanuel N. Reeves, one of the major donors to GBCSF is sponsoring 15 students and pledged to sponsor 2 teachers for advanced studies. Also, there were many other individuals who contributed to the scholarship funds which resulted to a total number of 68 local scholarships to GBCC.
The Grand Bassa Community College was established out of the need for a local institution of higher learning in Grand Bassa County, Liberia. Prior to its establishment, many high school graduates were limited in their higher educational pursuits because they were unable to fund the costs associated with relocating to Monrovia. Today, the school educates over 800 students in various technical fields. GBCC serves as a trailblazer to other community colleges that are blossoming in the country now, and has even won the approval and praise of our illustrious president Madame Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Speaking on behalf of the residents of Grand Bassa County, Senator Findley asks each Liberian in the Diaspora and residents of the County to contribute in some way to this great effort.
