Simeon G. Allolding Sr., 63, of South Portland, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Portland, ME.
Simeon was born in Wau Sudan on October 17, 1949 unto the union of Gakmar and Akech Allolding. He was born of the Dinka tribe in Sudan. Simeon Allolding Sr. left Sudan at the early age of 16, due to the war. He arrived in Monrovia, Liberia in 1966 where he earned an early education at Konola Academy, and his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Liberia. Simeon arrived In the United States in 1995 to start a new life and earned his Master’s degree of Science in Education from the University of Southern Maine. Simeon worked for both City of Portland as a Human Services Counselor with the General Assistance Office and Granite Bay Care providing assistance to the less fortunate and infirmed. Prior to that he worked at the Multilingual Multicultural Program Office as a community specialist.
A caring man by nature, Simeon loved his work helping others. He often helped people from other nations try to achieve the “American Dream”. In his down time, Simeon enjoyed catching up on world news by watching CNN, and keeping himself in shape at the gym.
Simeon was a big man with a big heart that will be dearly missed by his family, friends, the Sudanese and Liberian communities.
Surviving is a son Simeon G. Allolding Jr. and his wife Marguerite of So. Portland, a daughter Akech Allolding of Portland, Simeon Jr.’s mother Myrna Cooper, Akech’s mother Madia Benson-Allolding, three step-children, Patience, Mercy, and Era, a sister, and many extended family members.
Visiting hours for Simeon will be held this Friday, May 3 from 4 to 8 pm at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial for Simeon will be celebrated on Saturday the 4th at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland. Committal prayers will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
