Bertha Konae Sherman-Walker
“If we live, we are living for the Lord, and if we die, we are dying for the Lord. So, living or dying, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8
Bertha or Konae, as she was affectionately called, belonged to the Lord. and he called her home on September 19, 2018 at the Catholic Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia. With profound sadness yet abiding faith in the Lord, the Sherman, Kiahon, Kiadii, Dempster, Fahnbulleh, Roberts, Seinwah, Walker, Ware, Wayne and related families announce the homegoing of their mother, grandmother, cousin, aunty, and sister.
Bertha was a graduate of the Episcopal High School (EHS) in Roberstport, Grand Cape Mount County as well as the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Liberia. Upon graduation, she secured a job with the Ministry of Public Works and later transitioned to the Ministry of Lands, Mines & Energy until her retirement in 2008.
Bertha was predeceased by her parents, J. Bendukai & Marjon Sherman; sister, Sarah Weyatta Sherman; husband, Bertram J. Walker and son Zechariah B. Walker. She is survived by her siblings, Thomas W. Sherman, Sr., Bendu Sherman-DesBordes, Dr. Robert G. Sherman, William Feweh Sherman and Momo Sherman; her children S. Sando Wayne, II. & Isaac Walker; her grandchildren Abraham, Abel, Zachariah, Urias, Joel, Gabriel, Sando, JeMeg Konae, and hosts of relatives and friends in Liberia, the United States, Europe and Canada. While we are saddened by the tremendous loss of Bertha, scripture tells us, “Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. Andi if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14: 1-3. Bertha is now with our Lord and Savior and will never be alone. May the Almighty free our hearts of grief and sorrow and leave just treasured memories of her.
