BONAPARTE, Tony H. 76, passed peacefully at his home in Lutz, Florida on April 26, 2014. He is survived by his wife Sueli of 30 years, former wife Beverly, his daughter Yvette, son-in-law Mark, grandchildren; Liam and Elijah, sisters; Nesta, Nora, Nadia and Norma, sisters-in law; Lerlyn, Beryl and Linda, brothers; Thomas and Neil, brother-in-law Brad, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Born in Grenada and raised in Trinidad & Tobago, W.I., Dr. Bonaparte began his academic career as a graduate of St. John's University receiving his B.B.A., and M.B.A. He earned his Ph.D. from New York University.
Dr. Bonaparte was Special Assistant to the President of St. John's University and Professor of International Management in the Peter J. Tobin College of Business. He served as Provost of St. John's University from 1993 to 1999. Prior to that, he was Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost at Bentley University, and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost at Western International University. Dr. Bonaparte was also an Instructor and Assistant Professor of Management at St. John's University. He served at Pace University in ever increasing responsibilities, including; Associate Professor and Professor of International Business; Associate Dean and Dean of the Graduate School of Business; and Vice President, Corporate and International Programs and Dean, Lubin School of Business.
Dr. Bonaparte served on the academic, social and community Boards, and performed as Chairman and/or member of over 30 accreditation and evaluation teams for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools; the New England Association of Colleges and Schools; the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the New York State Education Department; and the Ministry of Education in São Paulo, Brazil.
He was Visiting Professor of International Business at the University of Stratclyde and the University of Edinburg in Scotland, and Senior Fulbright Professor of Business Administration at Cuttington College in Liberia, West Africa.
Dr. Bonaparte has received numerous awards, and academic and professional honors for outstanding service and achievement. He was member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Economics and Sociology and co-author of Peter Drucker: Contribution to Business Enterprise. He has published over 40 articles in referred journals and presented over 60 papers at professional conferences.
A funeral service will be held for Dr. Bonaparte at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from the Chapel of Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 West Bearss Avenue, Tampa, FL 33618.
