November 7, 1954   -   May 6, 2012

It is with sadness coupled with joy in God’s provident grace that we inform you of the death of our beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, relative and friend, Mrs. Margaretta Zoe Freeman Brooks.  The quiet transition occurred on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Botsford Hospital, Redford, Michigan.  Margaretta was one of several children born to Gayah and Ciatta T. Freeman in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County,   Republic of Liberia, West Africa.  Her father, Mr. Gayah Freeman predeceased her.  Margaretta attended school in Liberia graduating from the Wells Hairston High School in 1975, along with her husband, George Brooks.  In 1980 she acquired a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Liberia.  She then enrolled in the West African Insurance Institute of Liberia and graduated on August 2, 1984. She attended the International Aviation Management Training Institute in Montreal, Canada, graduating on July 22, 1994.  Margaretta also attended the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, of the University of Liberia, from where she graduated in 1995.  She was admitted to the Liberian Bar Association on November 1, 1996.    In Liberia she held several employment positions where she performed exceptionally; the last being Director of Aviation at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, & Transportation.

In 1985, she married her high school sweetheart, Mr. George Brooks, in Liberia.  They moved to the United States in 1997 and joined Bob & Lola Senter, affectionately called their “white” parents, in Kentucky.  They lived with the Senters for two years before moving to Michigan.  While in Michigan she attended the Academy of Court Reporting in Southfield, and completed the Para Legal Studies in 1998.  Margaretta was employed by the Sears Roebuck Company and later for Technicolor Video Services where she served for ten years before being laid off in 2009.

In December 2010, she became ill.  On Sunday, May 6, 2012, she yielded to her illness and went home to be with her risen Lord.
She leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Mrs. Ciatta T. Freeman-Sombai, of Farmington Hills, Michigan; her husband Mr. George Brooks, of Detroit, Michigan; her “white” parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bob Senter, of Ohio; one son, Mr. Emmanuel B. Massaley, one grandson, George A.M. Massaley both of Detroit, Michigan; two brothers, J. Edgar Freeman of Liberia, and George B. Freeman (Elsa) of Novi, Michigan. Five sisters, Lydia P. Freeman Benson, and Musu Fahnbulleh Benson (Patrick) of Farmington Hills, Michigan; Sangay Freeman Faeflan (Sarwee);  Tenneh Sombai; Favorlyn L.
