Mrs. Myrtle Evangeline Mason Smith-Bruce
The Mason, Smith, Bruce Bracewell and Turkett families regret to announce the passing of their Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Cousin Mrs. Myrtle Evangeline Mason Smith-Bruce who departed this earth on October 30, 2017 in Accra, Ghana.
Mammie, Mammie Bruce, Mother Superior, Aunty Myrl, Dear, was born in Arthington on October 15, 1924. She was the first Chief X-Ray Technician of the Republic of Liberia serving at both The Liberian Government Hospital and The JFK Memorial Hospital. She is also the face which appeared on The Official 1955 Postage Stamp of Liberia labelled “Liberian Government Hospital” “Research Today. Health Tomorrow”
She leaves to mourn her death, her children Johnnie Terence Smith, Roderick (Oso) Smith, Musu Bruce, Willa Bruce Gooding (Julius), Delores (Bumpty) Maxwell, Ernest Bruce, William T. Bruce Jr. (Watchen), William Gibson; her Sisters, Opral Mason-Benson, Ayele Ajavon-Cox, Gloria Bruce Thomas (James), Ellen Bruce, Clavender Bright Parker ,her Brothers Melvin J. Mason (Marie), Moses Bruce (Ola).
Her husband(s) John T. Smith and William T. Bruce Sr. predeceased her. Her children Glen Smith, Yatta Smith, Moses Boikai Bruce and Dada Smith predeceased her. Her sister(s) Agnes Mason Hoff and Lilly Mae Mason Dunn and brother(s) Rev. Dr. J. Benedict Mason and Demosthenes Mason also predeceased her.
The remains of Myrtle Evangeline will be removed from The AB Anderson Funeral Parlor Lynch St on Thursday November 16, 2017 at 4pm and taken to Mason Memorial AME Church Old Rd Sinkor for 3 hours of wake keeping (6pm-9pm)
Celebration Service will be held on Friday November 17, 2017 at 9am
