Mrs. Kpanah Zoe Cooper
The Cooper, Richardson, Washington, Norris, Roberts, Mamey, Varney and Clarke families announce with deep sadness the sudden death of their beloved Mrs. Kpanah Zoe Cooper on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Paynesville Monrovia, Liberia.
Ma Kpanah or Big Ma, as she was fondly called, was the epitome of hard work, determination, and selflessness. Born on July 11, 1923 in Virginia, Montserrado County to Magaret and Varney Mamey, Ma Kpanah taught herself how to read and write at an early age. What Ma Kpanah lacked in formal schooling she made up for in common sense and business savvy-ness. Despite her humble beginnings, Ma Kpanah became a successful business woman and eventually learned over eight different dialects through her business travels.
Ma Kpanah went on to marry the late Richard F. Cooper, and later gave birth to two sons: Charles M. Cooper, currently residing in Providence, Rhode Island, and Moses R. Cooper, currently residing in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Ma Kpanah will forever be remembered by her two sons, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nine siblings and countless other family and friends as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, business-woman and role model.
Ma Kpanah touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. She was a woman of tremendous faith and her family is comforted in knowing that she is now resting peacefully in the bosom of the Lord. A memorial service will take place in Millsburg, Montserrado County, Liberia in the coming week, and all cards and donations can be sent to the Cooper Family at 61 Ocean Street, Providence, RI 02905 (USA).
