Ellen Millicent Kpokeh Dunbar-Bowen
Sunrise: August 15, 1947 – Sunset: February 03, 2014

The Dunbar, Bowen, Sagbeh, and Wyah-Tarkon families would like to announce that on Monday February 3, 2014 at about 7:40 p.m. in her Rochester, Minnesota home in the United States of America surrounded by relatives, Ellen Millicent Kpokeh Dunbar-Bowen, our loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend slipped away quietly to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ellen was born on August 15, 1947 in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, unto the union of George Augustus Dunbar III, and Mother Lorpu Tarkon Dunbar-Sagbeh. At an early age, she embraced the Christian religion and was baptized by father Christian E. Baker, Sr. at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church located on Camp Johnson Road. Later in her adolescent years, she was confirmed by Bishop George Browne at the Trinity Cathedral located on Broad Street in Monrovia, Liberia.

She had many close friends: Myra Doe, Winifred McCritty, Roberta Browne, and Evangeline Turkett, to name a few.
She was married to Jerome Bowen, Sr. Their three children are Jerome Bowen Jr., Joel Bowen, and Erika Bowen. She leaves to mourn her passing, and cherish her memory, her children: Jerome Bowen, Jr., Joel Bowen, Erika Bowen, and two granddaughters. Also to mourn her passing are siblings from her mother’s two marriages: (Prophet) Winston C. Dunbar (Helena), Margarette Dunbar, Kim Dunbar-Dunzo (Loseni), George Sagbeh, Matturi Sagbeh, Emmanuel Sagbeh, and Victoria Sagbeh-Lasanah (George). She was pre-deceased by Bohnu Sagbeh who died in infancy, Amy Dunbar-Tebbs , and Musayenee Sagbeh.

Still other siblings that survived her, are: Ethel D. Knuckles-Wah, Edwin Dunbar, Mary D. Coleman,  Anna D. Borsay, Fanny Dunbar, Sara D. Diagne, Tryphena D. Fahnbulleh, Tilman Dunbar, Charles Dunbar, Martin Dunbar, Samuel Dunbar, Francis Burns Dunbar, Franklin Dunbar, Daniel Dunbar, Esther Dunbar, Euphemia D. Mulbah, Barnelia D. McIntosh, Aletha D. Hoff, Thelma D. Hill, Williette Dunbar, Inez D. Golakai, Danlette Dunbar, Johnathan Dunbar, Willis Dunbar, Monroe Dunbar,  Jacqueline Dunbar, William Dunbar, Ulysses Dunbar, Cecelia Dunbar, Henry Dunbar, Maude Dunbar, Maybel Dunbar, Winifred Dunbar-Davis Ernest Dunbar, Nathan Dunbar, Juliette D. Jabateh, Myrl Dunbar, Joyce D. Sherman, Clarence Dunbar, Sekou Dunbar, Kederick Dunbar and Derrick Dunbar. Also to mourn her passing are brothers and sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends.

May her soul through the mercy of our lord Jesus Christ, rest in eternal peace, and light perpetual shine upon her. AMEN.
