Mr. John Free
Sunrise: July 16, 1948 – Sunset: January 12, 2015

Scripture: “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praises shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me. And let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:1-3

It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that the Free Family, along with other relatives and friends announce the untimely death of their father, uncle, brother, cousin and friend, Mr. John Free. This sad event occurred on the morning of January 12, 2015 at North Cypress Medical Center in Houston Texas, after a brief illness.

John, Papa, Uncle John, Brother Free - as he was affectionately called - grew up in Greenville, Sinoe County under the guidance of his surrogate father, Uncle Sammy Free. Mr. Free relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1990 during the Liberian civil crisis. He was employed with Darr Caterpillar Corporation for nearly 14 years; he later transferred to another Caterpillar firm in Madison, Wisconsin until his retirement in 2007. John moved back to Liberia and established his home and sports entertainment business in the Virginia suburbs. He returned to the United States in 2013.

John was a very devoted and loving father and family man; he was very kind hearted and God-fearing. John was an active member of the Liberian Community Association of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a strong advocate of peace; he served as “Chief of Protocol”, LCA, Tulsa for many years.

He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his legacy seven children, eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives, church members, friends and well-wishers. May the grace of our lord Jesus Christ, the steadfast  love of the Father, and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit rest and abide with his soul until we meet again.
