Vashti Omodele Gooding-Gorwor (Mamie)

It is with heartfelt regret and deep sorrow that the Gooding, Nelson, Dennis, Johnson, Boayoue-Whitfield and Gorwor families announce the home going of our darling daughter, wife, sister, mother, Rev. Dr. Vashti Omodele Mamie Gooding-Gorwor who departed from this world on September 6, 2016.  Her departure occurred at the St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.  Mamie, as she was affectionately called, was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, aunty, niece, friend, spiritual leader, mentor, and educator. She will be missed by many of her spiritual admirers as a result of her untimely demise.

As a spiritual leader, she was an active church member and served for 13+ years as the church’s administrator for the United Christian Fellowship Church (UCFC) in Newark, New Jersey (Formerly the Liberian Christian Fellowship Church).  Mamie was known for her honesty, confidentiality, trustworthiness, kindness and wisdom.  She enjoyed having friends and family around always, helping others in need and living a good Christian life.  Mamie enjoyed cooking and feeding others and was a cheerful giver in every situation as God commanded.

Mamie was always quick to go to the source, “Master Jesus” praying through each and every situation in good and in bad times. One could always count on Mamie to pray a sincere prayer for him or her unto the Almighty God.

Mamie is survived by her husband Nathaniel Boayoue-Whitfield Gorwor, her daughter Ophelia Gorwor, and Naveda Kenken Gorwor, Meekie Gorwor, and Obadiah Gorwor,  She is also survived by her mother, Reverend Dr. Comfort Nelson Gooding-Johnson, her sisters, Silver Pet Smith-Padmore (James), Diamond Daisy Gooding-Williams (Prince), Vera Stewart (John), and her brothers, Pastor Alex Kwesi Zedek (Grace) and Reverend Walter Donald Gooding II (Grace), aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives including nephews, nieces, cousins etc.  Mamie was predeceased by her father, Walter D. Gooding, I.
