Dr. Lawrence Denoh-Beh Grear, Sr.

The Grear and Yuoh families announce with great sadness, the passing of Dr. Lawrence Denoh-Beh Grear, Sr. Dr. Grear went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 19, 2014 in Langston, OK. Joe, as he was affectionately called, was born September 16, 1948 to Samuel D. Grear and Sayder Esther in Gleplay Town, Grand Gedeh, Liberia. He was the eldest of nine children.
Joe's father valued education but because of a lack of educational resources in the village, he allowed his son to be adopted by Mr. A.K. Yuoh and his wife, Mrs. Agnes Yancy Yuoh.
Dr. Grear graduated from William V.S. Tubman High School and from the University of Liberia with a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology. He traveled to Texas in 1976 and later earned a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology and Community Development from Texas Southern University. In 1987, he received the Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from the University of Texas at Austin. His dissertation was An Evaluation of the Adequacy of the Census Data in Liberia.

He is survived by: his wife, Julia Cooper Grear. Children: Andrew Isaac (Joanna), Ann Marie Isaac Tsewole (Roosevelt), Lawrence Denoh-Beh Grear, Jr., Junisa Grear (Lorraine), Christopher Grear, Julian Grear, and Chukuma Belle. Grandchildren: Grace Dehconti Grear, Samuel Junisa Grear, Mutale Marie Isaac, Kelfalah Michael Isaac, Elliana Christina Parker, Easmond H. Tsewole, Ngangneh B. Tsewole, and Bernice H. Tsewole.
Biological sisters: Nyeneplue Annie Grear, Denoh "Dee" Grear, Joyce Grear, and Sophie Grear. Biological brothers: Sekoue James Grear and Prince Grear. Extended sisters: Cecelia Jones, Dr. Dwedor Morais Ford, Gbai Yuoh Gutknecht, Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, Wani Yuoh Hinton, Watchen Yuoh, Maromini Yuoh-Smith, Natu Yuoh Strathy, Monu Yuoh Toe, Maimah Yuoh Teamah, and Mercy Yuoh. Extended brothers: Wellington Jones, Blyden Yuoh, Hne Yuoh, Wesseh Yuoh, Gbobi Yuoh, Kekula Kaikai, and Pache Sie-Dio (Cha Cha Morgan).
Uncles, aunts-especially, Frances Grear (auntie), nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives; several close friends including Rev. Magnus Scott, Rev. Blaise "Bill" Bah, and Dr. Jean Bell Manning (Grandma).
