Augustus Gjyude Hare
December 24, 1920 – March 14, 2017

The Hare, Seton, Scott, Verdier and Jones families of Augustus Gjyude Hare, age 96, are announcing with deepest sorrow his Promotion to Glory on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Lorien Elkridge Skilled Nursing Center, in Elkridge, Maryland at 5:20 P.M.  From his birth to his death, he nourished those around him with his love, faith, and tender heartedness.

Son of Maryland County, he was born unto the union of Philip Hare and Cecelia Hoffman Hare.  Augustus G. Hare, a Liberian educator and statistician, graduated from Our Lady of Fatima College in Maryland County, Cape Palmas. He was awarded a UNESCO scholarship and studied at the University of Minnesota, where he received his M.A. in psychology in 1958.  Mr. Hare spent over 30 years in education. He served as Director of the Division of Statistics, Ministry of Education;  Assistant Professor, University of Liberia; and  President of Cathedral High School.  In 1985, he retired from active service and relocated to the US to be with his children. It was in the United States that he decided to fulfill yet another desire of his. In 1993, he enrolled at Elms College in Holyoke, MA and obtained another Master’s Degree in Theology. He remained active in the Catholic Church affairs until his mobility skills became nonexistent.

He is survived by his wife, Enid Jones Hare, her children and grandchildren.  His children include Philomena and Richard, Cecelia Hare Sawyer,  Augustus and Grace Hare, Beatrix and Sam Carradine, and Aloysious Hare. Grand children include - Hussein, Augustus Hare (Wede);  Thalmus Hare (Chamille);  Elise Kolle (Richard);  Unkonda Diawara (Jean–Lux); Josef Sawyer; Armand Carradine (Marisa); Kim Carradine; Sasha Carradine Character and Emmanuel Davis. Also mourning his loss are eight great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces including Samuel Hare Sr.  His first wife, Edith Ivy Hare predeceased him.
