Reverend Plezzant C. Harris Sr.

It is with great sadness that the Harris and Herron families announce the passing of Reverend Plezzant C. Harris Sr. of Benson Street and Mount Barclay, Liberia. Reverend Harris passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at ELWA hospital.

A quiet, kind, honest and determined soul, Reverend Harris loved his family, his church and his nation. Before joining the ranks of the clergy, Plezzant C. Harris worked at the Bank of Liberia in Buchanan and Ganta. As a business man, he was the proprietor of Kumbah Food Market and Soaring H Enterprises.

His love for the church took him to the United Methodist Ganta Mission where he served as Accountant and later Business Manager. Hardworking and honest, he rose in the ranks and became Station Chairman at Ganta Mission. In Monrovia, he served as Business Manager for the First Presbyterian Church of Monrovia and later, Conference Treasurer of the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He trained the next generation of leaders as Associate Professor at the United Methodist University. Committed to peace, the ministry of all churches, and to a better Liberia, he served as the Secretary General of Liberia Council of Churches. At the launched of the National Peace Council, Reverend Harris and wife Elizabeth Harris were among six prominent Liberians commissioned as Peace Ambassadors.

He is survived by:
His wife of 50 years, Mrs. Elizabeth K. Herron Harris;
Children: Plezzant C. Harris Jr. and wife Terri; Jennie E. Harris Stryker and husband Richard; Henry E. Harris and wife Dionne; Rose C. Harris; Pnehwon C. Harris and like daughter, Mustela Forte.
Grandchildren: children of Plezzant are Spencer (Metu), Phyllis, Jesse and Plezzant C. Harris; children of Jennie are  Waddy H. and Finda E. Stryker; children of Henry are Henry E, Plezzant C, Jesse E. and Henrie E. Harris; son of Rose is Amos B. Daweah; son of Pnehwon is Ethan C. Allen.
Sisters: Edwina Harris, Catherine Harris Dunbar and Gladys Harris. Brothers: Benjamin Harris and wife Muriel, Rudolph Harris and wife Ida and Victor Harris and wife Denise.
He is also survived by Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Finda Peters; great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, the honorable Jesse E. Harris and Rose C. Harris; his sister Julia Harris Stryker; his brothers James, Edwin, Sam, Jesse, Villard, and Collidge Harris.

Visitation and wake for Reverend Harris will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Monrovia, corner of Broad and Johnson Streets.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. The removal of the body from the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral Home will take place at 9:00 a.m.

Internment will take place at the Harris Cemetery in Mount Barclay.
