Jusu J. Hena

The Hena and the Cisco families announce with profound sadness the peaceful home-going of our beloved Liberian-American father, brother, uncle, cousin, and grandpa, Jusu J. Hena who died on the evening of February 13, 2016 in Dayton Ohio. Jusu was born unto the union of Mr.  & Mrs. Dominic Hena on July 16, 1951 in Bolahun, Lofa County a remote village in the West-African Country Liberia. Jusu completed his Elementary and Middle School education at the Bolahun Episcopal Mission Schools. In 1972, Jusu enrolled at the Voinjama High School where he graduated from in 1974.

Jusu was awarded a scholarship to study in the then Soviet Union where he enrolled in the department of Geophysics at the Kiev State University, Ukraine. Jusu spoke English and Russian, met his future wife, Ludmila Kravchenka while studying at Kiev University. Jusu and Ludmila got married in 1980 and shortly after gave birth to their first son Allen Hena. Jusu obtained a master’s Degree in Geophysics in 1981 and relocated his young family to Liberia where he worked as a Senior Geophysicist with the Ministry of Lands, Mines, and Energy. Jusu and Ludmila gave birth to their second son Dennis Hena in Monrovia Liberia.

Jusu escaped the emerging civil hostility in Liberia by relocating his family to Dayton Ohio in 1986 where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Geophysics with emphasis in Seismic Exploration at the Wright State University. Jusu lived and worked in the US for many years for the State of Ohio and other private corporations as Geophysicists and Information Technology Engineer. In 2010, Jusu returned home to Liberia to work upon the request of the National Oil Company (NOCAL) where he served as Assistant Director for Geology& Geophysics until he became ill.

While in the United States, Jusu had three more children; Eugenia Hena, Selley Spruell, and Phillip Hena. Jusu also made large strides to implement change towards the progress of Liberia, working in partnership with organizations like DALA (Dayton Area Liberian Association) and FLAA (Federation of Lofa County Associations in the Americas).

Jusu leaves to mourn his death his lovely wife Jemaima Johnson-Hena; his sibling Leonard and Winifred predeceased him, Gabriel, Cecily, Raymond, Rachel, Jenneh, Stella, Margaret, Wilton; his children Josephine, Allen, Dennis, Eugenia (Gena), Phillips, Selley, Cousins, Nephews, Nieces, Uncles, Aunts, Grandchildren and several other relatives.

May his Soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in perfect peace!
