The Honorable Charles Jefferson Johnson (Chuck)

The Johnson & Holt Families announce with profound regret the home going of their father, Husband, brother, son, and cousin, the Hon. Charles Jefferson Johnson (Chuck).  He was only 53 years old. This heartbreaking event occurred on Sunday, April 29, 2012, 3:AM, at the firestone hospital in Margibi County, Liberia, preceding a brief illness. Hon. Johnson is a former member of the House of Representatives for Grand Bassa County RL, Former Executive Director of the Liberia National Reconciliation Resettlement Commission RL and former Chief Auditor, Internal Revenue Division of the Ministry of Finance RL.  The late statesman was a 1985 graduate of the college of Business and Public Administration of the University of Liberia, and a 1978 graduate of the Bassa High School. He was a son of the soil of Edina City, Grand Bassa County, and a great-great-grand son of Elijah Johnson who helped to establish the Republic of Liberia.  He was also a great-grand nephew of President H.R.W. Johnson of the Republic of Liberia.

Brief family Background:

The late Hon. Charles Jefferson Johnson was born on January 2nd, 1959, untothe union of William A. and Emma R. Johnson Sr, who predeceased him.  He leaves to mourn his children:  Alma Johnson (Netherlands), Vinton Johnson (Liberia), Charles A. Johnson Jr. (Chucky)(USA), Markonjay Johnson (predeceased him), G. Alvin Johnson (USA), J. Elijah Johnson(Liberia), his wife: Rosalyn G. Holt-Johnson(Liberia); his siblings: Janine Johnson-Butler (USA),  Robert H. Johnson (Liberia), William A. Johnson, Jr. (USA), Emma Johnson-David(USA), James Wesley Johnson (Liberia), Calvin Roosevelt Johnson (USA), Claudia Merie Johnson-Wennah(USA);  two of his elder siblings, Hilary R.W. Johnson and Joseph Johnson predeceased him.  Grand Children: Samuel Alvin Johnson (Liberia) Rose- Merie Johnson (Liberia);  several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends and love ones in Liberia and abroad.

A Man of Inestimable Virtue:

Chuck possessed characteristics that defined him in a special category. His kind is not found often: He was a devoted Public Servant, a Christian, a loving father, family man, and a friend to all. Professionally, he was a brilliant and gifted accountant, public servant, and politician. Chuck particularly stood out for his principle mindedness, honesty and sheer decency. He was a true friend of the people and an ardent lover of his Country, Liberia.  His passing leaves a void.

Funeral Information:
At 3:PM, On Friday, May 25, the body will be taken from the Stryker Funeral Home to the National Capital Building in Monrovia for public viewing, for about two hours.  Thereafter, it will be taken to the E. Jonathan Goodridge United Methodist Church in Barnersville, near Monrovia, where Chuck served as President of the United Methodist Men’s up to his untimely death.

Wake-Keeping will be held at the E.J. Goodridge UMC from 7: PM to 1:00 AM. On Friday, May 25, 2012.

Funeral Service: 9: AM-12: noon, Sat. May 26, 2012, at the E.J. Goodridge UMC, in Barnersville.

Internment: Edina city - The body of Hon. Johnson will be taken to Edina, his home city immediately following the service and the protocol will involved the following:
Hon. Johnson will lie in the First United Methodist Church in Edina City for one hour.  During this time, a brief service will be held, followed by viewing of the body.  Internment will commence immediately after the brief service and Chuck will be laid to rest in the Edina City’s Official Cemetery.
