Hon. Daniel Gborwle Johnson
February 13, 1956 - February 15, 2016 

The Johnson, Kianken, and Weapooh families of River Gee County, Maryland County, Liberia and the United States announce with deep sorrow the home going of their son, father and hero, Honorable Daniel Gborwle Gbor-ju Johnson (D.J), Former Superintendent of River Gee County, Former Chairman of the Monrovia City Council, and Former Mayor of Monrovia, Republic of Liberia. This sad event occurred February 15, 2016, in Canadians Ota, Orgun State, Nigeria.

The Hon. Daniel G. Johnson was born on February 13, 1956 in Pleebo, Maryland County to the union of Mr. John G. Johnson and Mrs.Mary Juiah Johnson. He leaves to mourn his wife Ruth Johnson (USA), his 5 sons: Dan Johnson (USA), Nathaniel Boyblue Johnson (USA), Diamond Johnson (Liberia), Carlos Johnson (Liberia) and Wellington--stepson (Liberia); 3 daughter: Daneatta Johnson (Liberia), Precious Johnson (USA) and Alberta Telmie Jimmy- step daughter. Also, his father, Rev. John G. Johnson, his 7 brothers: David N. Johnson (USA), Peter Johnson (USA), Dementrus Johnson (USA), Tagbasi Gboffuah (USA), Fred Johnson (USA), Nathaniel Johnson (Liberia), Othello Flomo Johnson (Liberia), 3 sisters: Min. Sarah Fatu Young (USA), Eliza Johnson (USA), Yolanda Fanta Johnson (Liberia). Also, 2 uncles and spouses: David S. Johnson and Mrs. Sandra P. Johnson (USA), Rev. Thomas G. Johnson and Min. Yamda Beatrice Johnson (USA). Sister-in-laws, Faith-Joy Toe, Sandra Johnson, Anita Johnson, Rachel Angeline; Mother in Law, Barbara Toe; 2 brothers in laws, Fred Toe and Romeo Toe; several nieces, nephews, close friends: Frank Weller and Gerald Wiah, his God Father- Hon. Oscar Quiah and a host of relatives. He was pre-deceased by his dear mother Mrs. Mary Juiah Johnson and brothers: Benjamin, John and Oliver Johnson.

Hon. Daniel G. Johnson obtained his early education in Cavalla Firestone, Maryland County, Junior High and High school education from Bishop Juwlie High School in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County in the1980s. DJ graduated with a BA degree from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Liberia. 


During his college years, DJ became National Trainers Coordinator for the Peace Corps program in Liberia, National Coordinator of UNESCO,University of Liberia; He obtained his graduate school education from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland USA. Hon. Johnson was very focused on rebuilding Liberia, thus returning to Liberia where in February 2009, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appointed him to chair the Special Presidential Task Force on Greater Monrovia Cleaning and Urban Renewal. In 2012 President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appointed Hon. Daniel G. Johnson Superintendent of River Gee County.

Hon Daniel Johnson was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Monrovia where he served as the Christ Ambassadors' Youth President, District #1 (Monrovia District, Liberia Assembly of God Church Inc).  By 1982 DJ become the Principal of the Sinkor Liberia Assembly of God High School Night Session. In 1985 D J became a staff of Plan International.
     
By 1989 Daniel Johnson a resident of Bushrod Island was operating his Liberia Volunteers Corporation Inc. when the Liberian Civil War broke out. By categorical imperative, DJ's volunteers became the INPFL Volunteers Corporation. DJ was elected as senior member of the Independent National Patriotic Front of Liberia (INPFL). Hon. Daniel Johnson was a delegate of the INPFL Committee on Peace Talk in Banjul and Bamako.
    
In 1991 Hon. Daniel G Johnson was appointed Mayor of the City of Monrovia by Dr. Amos Sawyer, leader of the Interim Government of National Unity. He served in the position until 1997. In 1992 Hon Daniel G. Johnson was the Secretary General of the World Council of Mayors.

By 1988 Hon. Daniel G Johnson migrated to the U.S. and enrolled at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland for graduate studies. DJ was very focused and dedicated on the rebuilding of Liberia. Later, DJ returned to Liberia where he in February 2009 was appointed by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to Chair the Special Presidential Task Force on Greater Monrovia Cleaning and Urban Renewal. In 2006 President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appointed Hon Daniel G Johnson Superintendent of River Gee County.
    
In 2014, Superintendent Johnson was petitioned by River Gee County citizens to contest the 2014 Senatorial elections. He obliged, resigned his position as required by law, and ran unsuccessfully for the Senate position. DJ fell sick shortly after that election. He was taken to Orgun State, Nigeria for treatment. Howbeit, the patriotic, hard working and selflessly son of Liberia was called from labor to reward on February 15, 2016.

Funeral Services:
The funeral service celebrating the life of Hon Daniel G Johnson will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 9:30 am, at the First Assembly of God Church located at the corner of Carey and Buchanan Streets, Monrovia.

Internment will be followed thereafter at the Browerville cemetery, Browerville City, Liberia.
