Wesley Zuannah Johnson, Jr.
Sunrise:  January 10, 1950 – Sunset:  March 22, 2017

It is with profound sadness and regret that the Johnson, Gibson, Freeman and Mayson families announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and brother-in-law, Mr. Wesley Zuannah Johnson, Jr. This sad event occurred, after a long illness, on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield Texas, USA.

Wesley was affectionately known as 'Daddy' or ‘Pops’ to his children, ‘Grandpa' to his grandchildren, 'Big Boy' to his siblings & cousins and 'Uncle Big Boy’ to his nephews & nieces. As for his countless of friends & acquaintances, he was simply ‘Wes’.

Wesley Zuannah Johnson, Jr. was born January 10, 1950 in Monrovia, Liberia.  He was a life-long Episcopalian and got his early religious experience at Trinity Cathedral on Broad Street, Snapper Hill, Monrovia – near where he lived.  His father, Wesley Zuannah Johnson, Sr. was from Kormah Town, Bomi County, Liberia.  His mother, Theodorsia Gibson was from Maryland County in southeastern Liberia.  Both parents predeceased him. He attended the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Margibi County, Liberia where he earned a diploma in Architectural Drafting and Design in 1971.  Subsequently in the early 1980s, Wesley migrated to the United States and held several managerial positions in food management franchise.  In that capacity, he selflessly assisted many new Liberian arrivals to the US to get their first jobs. In 2006, he returned to Liberia and worked in President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s Administration at the General Services Agency as Director of Training. Subsequently in 2009, he established Zuannah Corporation in Liberia. Wesley loved helping others and found joy and satisfaction in being hospitable to anyone he met.

Wesley leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Mera Poayedah Freeman Johnson, his children, grandchildren, siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, many in-laws and a host of other relatives & friends in the United States, Liberia and other parts of the world.

May the soul of our dearly beloved departed, Wesley Zuannah Johnson, Jr., rest in perpetual peace.
