Emile Eku King, Sr.

At 79, the King and Mitchell families announce with deepest regrets and sorrow the home going of Emile Eku King, Sr., who was a few days shy of his 80th birthday, during the early hours of September 12, 2016.

Born on October 10, 1936, Eku (“Big Brother”), as he was commonly called, matriculated from the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Republic of Liberia where he met and married beautiful Sarah Mitchell, daughter of the late Honorable Samuel Mitchell, Sr. of then Rivercess Territory (now River Cess County).

Having a knack for fixing things mechanical, he started his career with the Ministry of Public Works where he rose through the ranks, becoming Director of Procurement.  At this position, he was able to influence the ministry’s purchasing policy for many years until he immigrated to the United States of America in 1994 due to the civil unrest in his beloved, adopted Liberia.

Eku is survived by his: a) beautiful wife (of 58 years): Sarah Mitchell King; b.) children: 1.) Grace King Toe (Theo), 2.) Lucia King Newton, 3.) Emile, Jr. (Plascer), 4.) Oliver Jeremy, 5.) Amelia King Kijan (Caesar), 6.) Donald King, 7.) Ciatta Massaquoi; and c.) siblings: 1.) Princess King Wilkins, 2.) Quaku King, 3.) Prudence King, 4.) Violet King Bedell, 5.) Kojo King (Amanda), and 6.) Amelia King Capehart (Wellington).

He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Christian King [“T-Bray” (Tea Bread)], a basketball aficionado in Liberia.  Surviving Eku, also, are many other relatives, including great grandchildren, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles, and aunts in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Great Britain, and the United States of America.

Like all who predeceased him, may the almighty God grant him eternal rest and shine His light in perpetuity on him.

We love you “Big Brother” and will do all we can to ensure that your legacy endures.  God bless!
