The Nimmo, Washington, Sirleaf, Dorley, Sarnor, Jangaba, Johnson, Bass and Clarke families announce with deep sadness the deaths of their great great grandmother, great grandmother, grandmother, mother, wife, sister, aunty, and niece: Sylvia Washington Nimmo, affectionately known as Mame, “The great one;” and Priscilla Johnson Clarke Bass, affectionately known as MameDear.
Mrs. Sylvia Washington Nimmo, 93, (Mother), passed into heavenly peace on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at the Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, IL.
Mrs. Priscilla Johnson Clarke Bass, 69, (daughter), passed into heavenly peace after a protracted illness on Sunday August 26, 2012, at the Mid-West Hospice Care in Glenview, IL.
Mother and only child were inseparable, loving, caring, compassionate, friendly, praying mothers and prayer partners, true servants of the Lord, and women of Praise and Faith in the Lord. They touched the lives of everyone they met. They did not only raise their own children, but adopted and raised their nieces, nephews, neighbors, and family members. They extended their love, prayers, friendship; treating everyone like family; embracing all with a friendly smile and a warm meal. The lives they lived will forever speak for them.
Sylvia was a God-fearing and honorable mother of the church. She lived a life dedicated to loving the Lord and always praying for her family and friends. She was married to David Nimmo (deceased) Sylvia only had one biological child Priscilla, but she adopted and raised most of her nieces and nephews. Her legacy is of diligence and entrepreneurship. She leaves to mourn her passing, her siblings, Mamuyan Sirleaf, Kenemassa Sirleaf, Adama Sirleaf, Emma Washington, Lavin Washington, and Isaac Washington; many adopted children; 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; church family relatives and friends who celebrate the completion of her long blessed and happy life.
Priscilla’s legacy is one of love and charity; she lived a long life of dignity and earned respect as a hard working business woman, school teacher and property investor in Liberia and the U.S. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Mr. James Bass; six biological children: Oswald Clarke (Tammie), Mayetta Clarke- Browne, Othello Clarke (Evelyn), Joseph Clarke (deceased), Hilary Clarke, Rebecca Clarke Charles (Akill); many adopted children; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters: Ivy Johnson, Caroline Jangaba- Nimely, Esther Washington. Two brothers Famusa Jangaba and Kpanas Jangaba. Also many other family members in the US, Europe and Liberia.
As mother and daughter, they shared a powerful love and an unbreakable bond in life; they have gone on to glory together. They will be laid to rest together in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.The Family address in Pennsylvania is: 1547 Tibbett Avenue, Sharon Hill, PA, 19079.
