Velma Wede Davies Okoro

Sunrise: October 27, 1948
Sunset: January 26, 2019

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose, under heaven...”
-Ecclesiastes 3:1

The Okoro, Davies, Prowd, Wilson and Morgan families announce the call to glory of our mother, aunt, and grandmother Velma Wede Davies Okoro.

She was born and raised in Harper, Maryland County, an only child to Joseph Davies and Rachel Prowd, both who predeceased her. She graduated from the Cuttington University, Bong County, and led a long professional career in the private sector and several international organizations.

Velma was an education advocate and humanitarian at heart, retiring to actively pursue her dream of building a school for underprivileged children in the 12-Houses, Paynesville community.

She leaves to mourn, her daughters Verlyn Okoro, Catherine Boyd-Swen, Nellie Nyemah-Morgan(Wellington), Velma Wilson-Smith(Sam Gayflor), Marlene Wilson, and Belle Dehabor; the Okoros, Davies, Prowd, Wilson, and Brown families; several cousins, foster children, grandchildren, god children, and a host of relatives and friends.

We will miss her unconditional kindness, witty humor and unwavering courtesy. Her dedicated service through the Episcopal Christian Women at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Paynesville is revered.

We celebrate her life of virtue. She leaves us with the legacy of her love and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives will remain, and we must keep those memories alive by sharing them with one another, always remembering God loves her best.
