COUNSELLOR LEMUEL E.A. REEVES, SR

OCTOBER 19, 1956 TO SEPTEMBER 30, 2018

PSAM 100 verses 1-5

5. For the lord is good his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures to all generations.

Lemuel E.A. Reeves was born on October 19, 1956 unto the union of James Lemuel Reeves and Nany Lulu Johnson Reeves in Lower Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Republic of Liberia. At the age of two he came to Monrovia and lived with his Grandmother Elizabeth Williams. He began his primary education at the Demonstration Elementary School on Clay Street, Monrovia, Liberia. After completing his elementary education, he enrolled at the College of West Africa where he successfully completed his secondary education in 1973. In his quest to achieve higher education, he enrolled at University of Liberia where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology; In 2001, he graduated from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia earning a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB). He was admitted as a member of the Grand Bassa Bar, an Executive member of the Liberia National Bar Association and a Counselor-At law of the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia.

Cllr. Reeves was a dedicated professional with extensive experience in law enforcement and providing access to justice in rural and marginalized persons; an effective team builder who performed well in multi-ethnic, multi-cultural environments. His work in law enforcement spanned more than 30 years; working with the Liberia National Police where we worked extensively as a criminal investigator holding various senior positions in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and serving as senior instructor at the Liberian National Police Training Academy and chief legal officer of the LNP. 
As a Lawyer, Cllr. Reeves worked to bring justice to deprive and under-represented communities across Liberia in his work with the Carter Center Access to Justice Program in Liberia. At the Carter Center, he worked to strengthen the legal foundation of civil society partners, traditional leaders, and prepared legal education training materials. Prior to joining the Center in 2008, Cllr. Reeves served as a judicial affairs officer with the UN Mission In Liberia (UNMIL). He worked with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and contributed to the consolidation of peace while monitoring legal judicial system in Liberia.  

Cllr Reeves leaves in mourning his loving and devoted wife Saydah Gibson Reeves, his children: Jeremiah Franklin Reeves (son), Christal-Dionne Elizabeth Reeves (daughter), Lemuel Eden August Reeves, Jr (son), and Karen Laurice Agnes Reeves (daughter). He raised and touched the lives of many including: David Warner Jr (nephew), Nelson Williams Chilly (foster brother), Brenda Kamara (niece-in-law), Dinah Dealum (stepdaughter), Romell Gibson (niece-in-law), Richmond Gibson (nephew-in-law), GardayeeKpalee, Emmanuel Zekeh, Edwin Yiepolu.

His surviving Siblings Marhea Reeves-Blankson, Joyce Reeves-Woods, Laurice Reeves-Bryant, Verna Reeves, Melvin Reeves, Agnes Reeves-Taylor and Winston Hammond-Reeves.

Cllr Reeves’s Father James Lemuel Reeves, Mother Nancy LuLu Johnson Reeves, Brother Justus Reeves and his Loving Grand Mother Elizabeth Williams (who raised him and was an influence in his life) all Predeceased him.
