Hon. John Samuel K. Smith, Sr.
Sunrise: June 12, 1947 - Sunset: January 18, 2016

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the Smith and Tolbert families announce the passing of our beloved Mr. John Samuel K. Smith, Sr., on Monday, January 18, 2016, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

Hon. J. Samuel K. Smith, Sr. was a dedicated servant to Liberia and held the positions of Consular-General to Egypt and Chief of Protocol of the Liberian Foreign Ministry.  In 1985, J. Samuel K. Smith Sr. joined the Liberian legislature when he was elected to serve as the Representative of Rivercess County; a position he held until the Liberian Civil War in 1990.  As a member of the Liberian legislature, he served as Chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee.  He was a lifelong patriot of Liberia and will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues.  

J. Samuel K. Smith, Sr. leaves to mourn his passing:  his wife, Mrs. Rosemarie Tolbert Smith; his children, Laurece Johnette “Jojo” Abraham, Richelieu Smith, Darlene Smith, Sammarie Smith, Rosesam Smith, Franklin “FC” Smith, and John Samuel Smith, Jr.;  seven grandchildren; his sisters, Mary and  Esther Smith; his brother, Wilson Smith; his aunts, Amelia Smith and Victoria Sayeaneh; sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
