Mrs. Mary E. Thorpe

The Thorpe, Smallwood, Holt and Hart families announce the peaceful home going of Mrs. Mary E. Thorpe, Retired Educator, Past Grand Princess (SMT Liberia) and Chaplain of Cedar Chapter No. 131, Past Worthy Matron and Past Honorary Grand Matron (Order of the Eastern Star) on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Providence, RI

She leaves to mourn her loss and celebrate her life and legacy her children Samuel Thorpe, Harvey George, Frederick (Yardley) Thorpe, Bishop Jonathan (Frances) Hart, J. Alexander Thorpe, Barbara Thorpe, Williametta Thorpe, Napoleon Thorpe, Jr, Elfreda Thorpe, Richard (Samilla) Thorpe and Anthony Cole, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace and rise in glory.

Final Arrangements
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 175 Mathewson St, Providence, RI 02903. Wake keeping and viewing will begin at 9:00 AM. Please send tribute requests for the wake and the repast to samillad@yahooo.com. Tributes during the memorial service will be limited to the immediate family only. Also note that it may not be possible to accommodate all requests and we ask for your continued prayers and understanding.

The remains will be removed from the Samuel Stryker Funeral Home at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 6th, 2016 and taken to the Grand Masonic Temple on W. Benson Street where ceremonies will be held, followed by a vigil at 6:00 PM  at Trinity Cathedral, Monrovia.

Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2016 at 10:00 AM also at Trinity Cathedral and her remains will be interned beside her late husband, Judge Napoleon B. Thorpe, Sr at the family cemetery in Crozierville, Liberia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to:
