Amos James Witherspoon, (Boy Amos)
LIVED A GOOD LIFE"
Witherspoon, Duncan and Bracewell families regret
to announce the death of Mr. Amos James Witherspoon,
(Boy Amos), commonly known as "Leggies,"
"Rah Rah," "It's a Rumor,"
or simply Amos by his family and friends. Born
July 5, 1934, in Harrisburg, Montserrado County,
the son of the late William Nosterdan Witherspoon
and Elfreda Violet Bracewell-White. This
sad event occurred on Saturday, July 23, 2005,
at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.
being called to serve his country overseas in
the Foreign Service, he served as an Attorney-at-law
and worked for several Law Firms in Monrovia.
Amos served as counselor in Japan, Ghana, Sweden
and Switzerland before transferring back home
where he was appointed Assistant Minister of Foreign
Affairs retiring in January 2000 due to ill health.
Amos is survived by his wife of 49 years, Magdaline
"Maggie" Versia Duncan Witherspoon; his
stepmother Paulita Coleman Witherspoon Padmore;
five children, Evelyn Witherspoon-Dunbar, Nancy
Witherspoon-Kellam, Indira Witherspoon, Michelle
Witherspoon, and Michael Witherspoon; his older
brother William Solomon Van Witherspoon commonly
known as "Bushu Bang" who preceded him
in death, his sister Beatrice (Honeybunch) Allen-Miller,
the only sister by his deceased mother Elfreda Violet
Bracewell-White and deceased father William Nosterdan
Witherspoon; sisters, Annette Witherspoon, Zeline
Witherspoon, Sarah Witherspoon, Winona Acolatse,
Elouise Mozeline Witherspoon, and Williametta Witherspoon;
seven brothers, Spoon, Lorenzo, Solomon, John D.,
Samuel D.; William, Jr., John who preceded him in
death, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his family/cousin
Preston & Grace Padre, and Mac and Frances Crusoe
who helped care for him and his wife during their
stay in the United States, and a host of other relatives
Arrangements will be announced later.
