Centennial Celebration of the 100th birth anniversary of Late President William Richard Tolbert, Jr. May 13, 1913-May 13, 2013.

The Tolbert family of Liberia in collaboration with the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary, Liberia Baptist Missionary Education Convention, Baptist World Alliance and Friends of President William Richard Tolbert, Jr. will from May 12, 2013 to May 13, 2013 during a series of events celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the 19th President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr.   William Richard Tolbert, Jr.

The Tolbert family and its collaborating partners in the above endeavor plan to celebrate this historic occasion by undertaking several programs in Bentol City, at the site of President Tolbert’s burial on Center Street in Monrovia and at the premises of the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary in Paynesville. These programs are intended to highlight and memorialize the philosophy, ideals, aspirations and contributions of the late President.

The above historic program celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of the late President William Richard Tolbert, Jr. takes place under the theme “Glorifying God while Celebrating the Legacy of President William Richard Tolbert, Jr.”

According to the Tolbert Family, the goals and objectives of these historic celebrations are to promote peace and reconciliation amongst Liberians with Thanksgiving to God; reflecting on the legacy and significant contributions made by President William Richard Tolbert, Jr. which said contributions served to promote the development and advancement of humanity both nationally and internationally.

On May 12, 2013, the eve of late President William Richard Tolbert, Jr.’s birth anniversary, the family will host a morning worship service at the ZION Praise Baptist Church in Bentol City, the church pastored by the late President for more than 25 years until his death in 1980, to be followed by a midday laying of wreath on a monument constructed by the late President William R. Tolbert at the Tolbert Family Cemetery in Bentol city.

Following the wreath-laying at the Tolbert Family Cemetery in Bentol, there will be unveiling of renovation and conversion plans for the William Richard Tolbert, Jr., homestead (“the Lion House”) in Bentol city , which said homestead when renovated shall be converted into a national library, museum and research center for the promotion of peace, reconciliation and leadership development in Liberia.

A ground breaking ceremony will also take place on Sunday May 12, 2013 for the William and Victoria Tolbert National Zoo and Botanical Garden in Bentol city on land donated to the Government and people of Liberia by The William Richard Tolbert, Jr. Family.

 

On Monday May 13, 2013, the 100th birth Anniversary of President Tolbert, the day will commenced with a solemn Prayer and wreath laying ceremony commencing at 9a.m. at the site of the Mass Grave in Palm grove Cemetery on Center street in Monrovia where the remains of the late President Tolbert along with a number of his Cabinet Officials are believed to be buried.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony on Center street, the program will move to the Liberia Baptist and Theological Seminary on the Schiefflin Highway in Paynesville where the program will commence at 11am on Monday, May 13, 2013 with the delivery of a special Keynote address by Hon. M. Burleigh Holder, son-in-law of the Late President William Richard Tolbert and former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Liberia.

At the Baptist Seminary, the William R. Tolbert Jr., Scholarship Fund will be launched targeting a goal of  at  least $100,000 (One hundred thousand US dollars)  to which the Tolbert Family will contribute an initial amount of at least $10,000 (ten thousand US dollars).

In addition to the Scholarship Fund and Keynote Address, the Tolbert Family in collaboration with the Liberia Baptist Theological and educational Convention will on May 13, 2013 be announcing the launch of an Annual William R. Tolbert Lecture Series and William R. Tolbert Leadership Institute.

The Tolbert family in conjunction with the Liberia Baptist Theological and educational Convention welcome all Liberians, friends and admirers of the late Dr. William R. Tolbert,  Jr. to these important celebratory events in his Honor.
