Launch of Liberian Cultural Night at the Kendeja Resort
Traditional Culture returns

On Saturday, 3rd of July, the Liberian Cultural Night was launched at the RLJ Kendeja Resort and Villas. It started with a performance of the children of the Kendeja community who showed great talent and enthusiasm. Pulsating drumming rhythms and dancers in colorful costumes made it an unforgettable evening for all who attended. It is the first time this weekly event is held and is a unique opportunity to see and experience real traditional Liberian culture and taste Liberian food. It is even more significant, that this takes place at Kendeja, the location of the former cultural centre and that the performances are done by the Kendeja Community. It is also a clear sign that the commitment of the RLJ Kendeja Resort and Villas towards Liberian culture and economy and especially to support the local Kendeja community is not just a hollow phrase, but is really being put into action. The cultural group from the Kendeja Community showed a traditional food preparation and dances from Bassa, Vai, Kpelle and Dan.

General Manager Ronald Stilting was very happy with fascinating performance and the positive feedback from foreign, but especially from Liberian guests "It confirms that Liberian Culture is appreciated and can attract guests if it is presented and promoted the right way. I think this is the way forward, not only for Kendeja but for the tourism sector in general" We will increase this kind of activities and launch a monthly changing Contemporary Liberian Art Exhibition on the 15th of July. At this moment we are also developing a range of special Kendeja products, postcards and arts and crafts in collaboration with the Kendeja community and craftsman, which can be bought in our shop to support this concept and the Kendeja Community."
