Sisters of Substance Donate to Fatima Cottage Orphanage Mission

Monrovia December 9, 2008: A US-based charity organization, Sisters of Substance (SOS) have made a generous donation to the Fatima Cottage Orphanage Mission in Diggsville, a suburb of Monrovia.

The donation was made on Monday, December 8th, by Mrs. Aretha Collins, on behalf of SOS. Items donated included three large barrels of school supplies, clothes and shoes.

SOS is a New Jersey-based nonprofit organization founded in 2006 by professional Liberian women residing in the United States with the aim of helping to improve the livelihood of war-affected women and children in post-conflict Liberia.

The 25-member strong women's organization, Mrs. Collins said, was very concerned about the plight of women and children and had been looking for an opportunity to assist, especially through an organization like the Fatima Cottage Orphanage, that is well recognized and managed.

The Fatima Cottage Orphanage is the oldest orphanage in Liberia, having been founded 37 years ago by the 83-year old Rev. Mother Victoria Young. Over the years, the Orphanage has provided shelter, education and spiritual guidance for thousands of Liberian children who range in age from 6 months to 21 years.

SOS said this donation is the first of an annual giving and in time of scholarships will be provided to deserving students.

In response, Rev. Mother Young thanked SOS and for the donations and said it was timely in this Christmas Season when orphaned children were most in need. She wished God's blessings upon the organization and it's members.
