True Liberian Ghost Story

This story happened a while ago in Monrovia , and even though it sounds like a tale, it's true.

John Forkpa, a University of Liberia student, was on the side of the road hitch hiking on a very dark October night and in the midst of a storm with thunder and lighting. The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got in the car and closed the door, just to realize there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on!

The car started moving slowly. John looked at the road and saw a curve approaching.
Scared, he started to pray, begging for his life.

Then, just before he hit the curve, a hand appeared through the window and turned the wheel.
John, paralyzed with terror, watched how the hand appeared every time they came to a curve.
John saw the lights of a shop down the road so, gathering strength, jumped out of the car and ran to it.

Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and asked for two shots of gin.
He then started telling everybody about the horrible experience he went through.

A silence enveloped everybody when they realized he was crying and....wasn't drunk.

About 15 minutes later, two guys walked into the same shop. They were also wet and out of breath.

Looking around and seeing John Forkpa sobbing at the bar, one said to the other, Look at, .. there's the stupid ass that got in the car while we were pushing it.

True Pem Pem - Dead Man Story

In December 2007, a poor Liberian family had the problem of moving a dead body from Harbel to Cotton Tree. With little resources, the family decided that the cheapest way was to transport the body by pem pem (motor bike).

The family identify a pem pem driver who agreed to transport the body for LD 3,000 ($50.00). The pem pem driver pulled up in the yard. The family sat the dead man up on the back of the pem pem. They lean him forward on the pem pem driver's back, and put a black plastic bag over the dead man's face. They ask the pem pem driver if he was okay? He said yes and took off speeding down the highway. The breeze was strong and after about a couple of miles the plastic bag flew off the dead man's face. It was at that moment the pem pem driver looked in his rear view mirror and saw the dead man looking at him with his tounge sticking out.

He panic, lost contol of the bike and ran it right into the gutter shouting, "my people, your come for me o, the dead man want catch me, your help me o, he will will catch me...."
