What's Happening With The Reconstruction?

Resurfaced Raod, Tubman Blvd, Congo Town, Monrovia

The Chinese are working on the road project. Notice the difference between the old and new pavement.

Tubman Boulevard

Tubman Blvd. has been resurfaced from 1st Street to Congotown, and the road resurfacing continues.

For the first time since coming to Liberia, I am beginning to enjoy driving on a road. The other day, I traveled along this route " from Springsfield Airfield to Tubman Blvd., to Congotown Back Road to SD Cooper Road, to Robertsfield Highway" and realized for the first time since May 2006, there are no bumps, the ride was smooth and the ride enjoyable. "Ma Ellen, thank you o"

Road Construction at night, a new phenomenon in Liberia

These days when you ride out at night along the Boulevard, there is a good chance you will see the road crew, working on the road at night. I like this new phenomenon, the crew is able to get more work done with less disturbance from cars and people.

The Power of Paint

One of things that overpower your senses when you enter Monrovia is the number of unpainted buildings. Recently, some government agencies and private businesses have started adding PAINT, and I mean "Real Paint, Not White Wash" to their buildings.

Bureau of Maritime Affairs office on Tubman Boulevard in Sinkor was recently painted with an attractive blue color that makes the building look good and improves the look of this block of Tubman Boulevard.

LIBTELCO Office on 18th Street in Sinkior, is another building that you can't ignore as you drive by. The building was renovated in preparation for LIBTELCO upcoming launch.

The yellow and red paint is attractive and greatly improves the look on the 18th Street block.

Temple of Justice on Capitol Hill - There is no building in Liberia that has transform itself like the Temple of Justice. Although the renovation is ongoing, the entire complex is beginning to gave the capitol area a great new look. The cream paint compliments the gray and sparkles like gold in the bright African sun. The paint brings out the beauty of the building, making it one of my favorite buildings in Liberia.

New court houses and administrative buildings are being added to the complex which is also improving the look of the Capitol from Capitol By-Pass.

Renaissance Hotel on 16th Street in Sinkor painted it's building bright yellow. It looks good.

Bad areas are cut out, then refilled and repair before resurfacing

Gutters are another feature that is being added to the roads. Finally, somewhere for rain water to go!

The Power of Paint

This building on Cheeseman Ave in Sinkor is beautiful with its two tones of pink

Road Construction and Renovations

These roads have been identified for repairs in Monrovia in 2009. Gutters and drainage systems are being installed along Tubman Blvd. and other major roads where they are needed. Repairs have begun on these roads.

  • AB Tolbert Road

  • SKD Boulevard (Tubman Blvd. to Somalia Drive)

  • SD Cooper Road (Robertsfield Hwy to Tubman Blvd.)

  • Robertsfield Highway (Full length)

  • Tubman Boulevard (The road has been repaired from 1st Street to just beyond Catholic Hospital Junction). The Chinese who are working on this project, They work mostly at night, which helps reduce the traffic jam. The road work continues on Tubman Blvd.

  • Matadi - Lakpazee Road (Airfield to Matadi)

  • Sinkor Old Road (Full length)

  • Rehab Road (Robertsfield Hwy. to Duport Road)

  • Jallah Town road - (Full length) The road was poorly build in 2007/2008 by the Ministry of Public works and private Liberian contractors. The entire road needs to be rebuild.

Watch for more Reconstruction Comments on TLC Africa

A performance review of some public corporations and ministries.

The Presidency

We know that the presidency cannot by itself perform all of the necessary task needed to make the government and nation functional; hence, our public corporations and ministries are the arms of the executive which the people of Liberia directly hold responsible for the performance of their respective duties. What's happening guys? The president is working very hard, what about you? A performance review of some public corporations and ministries.

Public Works

Is there any physical contribution that Public Works make towards the reconstruction other then subcontracting to the Chinese who are a doing a good job, considering Public Works enormous budget and staff? Jallah Town Road is a classic example of how not to build a road.

Postal Mail

Postal Service is up and running. You can now send Postal Mail within Liberia and the world. Standard delivery time for mail within the country is a day or 2. Standard mail between the US and Liberia is 8 days.

You can also have your mail delivered to your home. But first you have to register your home address and location to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

Emergency Mail Service (EMS), a new service introduced by the post office, delivers mail to the world within 5 days. (Bravo!!!)

Passport Service

Do you know it only takes 2 days and $25.00 (USD) to get a Liberian passport? Thanks to Foreign Ministry and Mary Broh, who is now at NPA, the passport service is much improved. (Bravo!!!)

LEC

The most waited for corporation is LEC. After 2.5 years, I still can't believe that I can't get electricity delivered to my home. In July 2007, LEC installed poles in the front of my house, with promises of being connected to the prepaid meter system. Its January 2009 and still no connection to the national grid or any system. What's up with that?

Monrovia City Corporation (MCC / City Hall)

Shame on you City Hall. The city is still dirty and the streets used for markets, despite many newly constructed and renovated market places going unoccupied. The trash collection that began in 2008 is failing miserably. The trash bins are poorly placed, too small, not covered and not emptied on time. City ordinances are not published and enforced.

NPA

Is there any possibility that NPA will get it's house in order? Insufficient equipment, broken equipment, beaurocracy, etc?

Telecom

Will you ever take off in this century? Liberians are still awaiting us!

Liberian Produce and Marketing Corporation (LPMC)

We are still trying to figure out what you are doing, can you please tell us?

LBS

Thanks to LBS, we get the News also in simple English to enable all of our people to be informed, however, can you please hire literate broadcasters instead of semi? - The End -
