Joanne DeShield Bright
The DeShield, Benson, and Bright families announce with heavy hearts the passing of our beloved Joanne DeShield Bright. Her peaceful passing occurred on the morning of September 7, 2019 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Joanne is survived by her children Kelvin I. R. Bright, Raquel Bright Howard (Steve); her sibblings John R DeShield Jr (Cynthia), Hawa Dennis, Angeline Hunter (Thomas) and James Gbollie (Grace). She is further survived by her aunts Enid Benson, Ellen Brown, Shirley Henries, and Nellie Sidifall (Reuben) in addition to several nieces, nephews, cousins, god-sisters and god-brothers, and many friends and associates in Liberia, United States, and other parts of the world.
She was predeceased by her parents, John R. DeShield Sr. and Mai Benson DeShield.
Joanne was a profound believer in Christ and a staunch member of the United Methodist denomination in Liberia as well as the United States.
She attended St Theresa Convent from which she graduated in 1974. Following graduation, she continued her education at the University of Liberia where she graduated in 1980 with a degree in Business Management. Joanne was employed at the Ministry of Public Works for several years prior to relocating to the United States.
