Mother Portia Lee Thomas

The Thomas, Dinkins, Scott, and Caranda families regret to announce the homecoming of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt, Mother Portia Lee Thomas. Mother Thomas answered the call to glory peacefully in her daughter's (Mother Debbie's) arms at their residence in Morris Farm, Paynesville, Liberia on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at the golden age of 90 years.

Mother Thomas served in many capacities in Liberia with distinction, including with the Monrovia College High School as Assitant Registrar, the USAID, USIS, and the University of Liberia where she served as the Assistant Registrar for many years before retiring in 1974. Mother Thomas then joined the School of Prime Systems (SPS) as the first Registrar until her call to glory. 

Mother Thomas leaves to mourn her loss her only daughter and bedrock, Mother Debbie Scott-Caranda; her only son Malcolm Corwyn Thomas; nine grandchildren--Lloyd, Gbanja, Fanga, Nathaniel, Desiree, Shondi, Ashara, Chavon, and Isaiah; granddaughters in law Tryphena and Monique; seven great grandchildren--Eric, Emmett, Emmeric, Saniya, Madisyn, Maison and Coldin; two brothers--Elmo Lyman Dinkins, II. and Daniel Dinkins; one sister--Karen Mayme Lewis; daughter in law Melanie Thomas, several nieces and nephews and God children, and a host of loved ones.

Mother Thomas's final homegoing services are as follow: 

Removal of the Body from the Samuel Stryker funeral home at 9am on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019;

Wake keeping services: Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at 10:00am at the Eliza Turner Memorial AME church, 34 Camp Johnson Road, Monrovia;

Funeral services follow immediately at 11 am on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at 11am on at the Eliza Turner Memorial AME church, with burial to follow at the JCN Howard Grave site on Duport Road, Paynesville.
