Daniel K. Wollo, Sr.
We regret to announce the home going of our husband, father, uncle, cousin, friend, and a Man of God, Daniel K. Wollo, Sr. This sad event occurred on Friday, March 15, 2019, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, after a short period of illness.
Elder Wollo, was born in Rock Cess, River Cess Territory (now County). He later moved to Buchanan where he worked and had his family, before moving to Monrovia in later years. He graduated from the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in 1967 and began working for the LAMCO JV Operating Company where he spent 20 years; majority of those years were at the Wallenberg Training Center in Buchanan and Yekepa, and then the Auto Car Shop in Yekepa. He went on a government scholarship to Turin, Italy, for Vocational-Technical Education Training, and later earned a degree in Applied Science (with emphasis in Automotive Engineering) from the University of Minnesota – Duluth (UMD). It was in LAMCO that he made many of his very good friends, many of whom are still around today, and still close to the family. After LAMCO, he joined J. Wareibi & Sons Corporation (NISSAN Garage) in Monrovia and was there until 1990 when he went back to Buchanan and joined the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) shortly afterwards. He spent 12 years with CRS in Buchanan and Monrovia until he left for the USA, where he spent 16 years with Parkway Corporation here in Philadelphia.
He was a Christian and was baptized in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) Church in Buchanan and spent many years with that church, holding various administrative positions until he was ordained an Elder in Monrovia. For his great love of music and being a member of the choir, he also served as Choir Director in the Church. When he moved to the USA, he joined the Tabernacle Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA, and later became Assistant Pastor of the Church.
Elder Wollo was a devout family man and a Christian who was kind and willing to assist whenever he could in whatever way he could afford to. He will be missed by family and friends.
He was the last child of 5 children of his parents whom both predeceased him. 3 of his siblings also predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 49 years – Clementine Wollo, his 5 children – Agnes Rebecca, Fatee Juah (Zeigler), Anita Cee (Woiwor), Daniel Wollo Jr., and Daniela; 6 grandchildren, and his only surviving sibling, Lucy Sanley, nephews, cousins, and other relatives in Liberia and the USA.
Home going service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Tabernacle Lutheran Church on 5843 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA.
Viewing of the body is at 9am, and the funeral starts at 10am.
Internment follows at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, 1400 Springfield Rd, Collingdale, PA 19023.
