Travel Advisory on the Precautionary Observation of all Persons Arriving From Countries With Widespread and Active Human to Human Transmission of COVID-19 Within 14 Days of Departure:

February 28, 2020

Given the current explosive transmission of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in several counties around the world, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) activated its COVID-19 Preparedness Plan activities as of January 25, 2020. A part of that plan is the enhanced screening of all arrivals a the Roberts International Airport (RIA). The health sector has instituted these measures to reduce the likelihood of an imported case of the deadly COVID-19 from countries that are experiencing active and widespread transmission.

In consultation with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Liberia and the World Health Organization in Liberia, NPHIL and MOH have instituted the following guidelines as criteria necessitating transfer of arriving passengers to Star Base, the Government of Liberia (GOL) approved Precautionary Observation Center (POC):

1. Any person who within 14 days before arriving in Liberia has resided in a country that has reported 200 or more confirm cases will be taken to the Star Base POC for 14 days of monitoring. Coronavirus: Sudan confirms first case

Sudan says a man in his 50s who died on Thursday in the capital, Khartoum, had coronavirus, confirming the country's first case.

Trump announces 30-day suspension of travel from Europe

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a 30-day bar on travel from most of Europe to the United States in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus — ratcheting up his administration’s response after battling criticism for previously downplaying the crisis.

In a rare address from the Oval Office, Trump said the European Union had “failed to take the same precautions” as the U.S. had implemented to contain the coronavirus outbreak, prompting his decision to temporarily suspend travel between the two continents. The restrictions will not apply to the United Kingdom, where the number of confirmed cases topped 400 on Wednesday. Read more...

‘Don’t Kill Senator Dillon’s Brother Without Giving Him Due Processes’

-Cllr. Augustine Toe, former LACC commissioner, cautions government’s lawyers

Minutes after government’s lawyers (prosecution) that are pressing to convict Oliver Dillon asked the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Margibi County to postpone the case, Dillon’s lawyer, Cllr. Augustine Toe, who is a former commissioner of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), is arguing that the request is a complete violation of the fundamental rights of his client and meant to keep him silent. Defendant Dillon is currently in jail.

“If you want to kill Oliver Dillon because of his brother, you should first allow him to go through a due process,” Cllr. Toe said openly, during an argument as to whether the prosecution‘s request should be granted by Judge Mardea Tatt-Chenoweth or not. Read more...
